Fracture of the Carpal Scaphoid —A Radiological Study of Thirty Cases

a radiological department, such was my belief too; but it was not long before I had changed my views on the subject, and I hope that no apology is needed therefore for the publication on my part of a few notes on this interesting and common type of fracture. Our lack of knowledge on this subject is no doubt due to the fact that radiological examinations of ' sprained wrists' were very seldom done in the past, and that such fractures seldom produced more than mild symptoms which were quite compatible with ordinary sprains. Even to-day, when x-rays are within the reach of us all, it is no uncommon event for one to meet with a case sent for radiological examination of the wrist, only after conservative treatment for a sprained condition has been carried out for a couple of weeks or more. Fractures of the carpal scaphoid have been better recognized in the Army, obviously because, as a routine measure, all cases of sprained wrists are radio-

Correlation of Reconstructed Scaphoid Morphology with Clinical Outcomes
Background: Scaphoid malunion alters the carpal kinematics and impairs clinical outcome because of pain, weakness, restricted range of motion and predisposing the wrist joint to early osteoarthritis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the scaphoid morphological angles on clinical outcomes in patients with reconstructed scaphoid by non-vascularized bone graft. Methods: Seve...
متن کاملFracture of the carpal scaphoid. A prospective, randomised 12-year follow-up comparing operative and conservative treatment.
We compared the long-term outcome in 61 patients (62 fractures) treated operatively or conservatively for an acute fracture of the carpal scaphoid. A total of 30 fractures was randomised to conservative treatment using a cast and 32 to operative treatment using a Herbert bone screw. The duration of sick leave was shorter for patients treated by operation, but this was only significant in patien...
متن کاملTrans-scaphoid perilunate fracture dislocation: 'notjust a scaphoid fracture'.
Rowan CH, Downing ND. BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2017-221041 Description Perilunate dislocations are uncommon high-energy injuries which are missed in approximately 25% of cases on initial presentation. We present the X-rays of a 25-year-old man who fell from a height of approximately 2 metres onto an extended wrist. Plain radiographs (figure 1) show classical signs of a trans-scaphoid ...
متن کاملOccult Fractures in the Carpal Region: Incidental Findings on Bone Scintigraphy
The aim of this study was to evaluate the number and distribution of fractures around the wrist found on bone scintigraphy in patients with a clinically suspected scaphoid fracture and negative initial radiographs. We retrospectively included 445 consecutive patients with a suspected scaphoid fracture who underwent routine bone scintigraphy. None of the radiographs showed evidence of a fracture...
متن کاملComparative Study of the Diagnostic Value of Panoramic and Conventional Radiography of the Wrist in Scaphoid Fractures
BACKGROUND Scaphoid fractures are the most common type of carpal fractures. OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to compare the diagnostic value of panoramic and conventional radiographs of the wrist in scaphoid fractures. PATIENTS AND METHODS The panoramic and conventional radiographs of 122 patients with acute and chronic wrist trauma were studied. The radiographs were analyzed and examine...
